William Henry Margetson was a British figurative painter whose subject matter was primarily Victorian-era women. Born in London in 1961, he studied at Dulwich College and at the Royal Academy of Arts, before becoming a member of the Royal Institute in 1909. Though the artist's subjects varied, he made his living taking on portrait commissions. His later work was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite painters like William Holman Hunt and Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Today, his portrait of the poet Lord Alfred Tennyson hangs is in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
