Dean Cornwell (1892- 1960) was an American illustrator and muralist. Throughout the first half of the 20th century he was a dominant presence in American illustration. At the peak of his popularity he was nicknamed the "Dean of Illustrators".

The artist and his model, 1921 detail
Dean Cornwell was a brilliant  painter and muralist who dominated the illustration field for many years.
Dean Cornwell began his professional art career at age 18 as a cartoonist for the Louisville Herald. A year later, he enrolled at the Chicago Art Institute and went to work in the art department of the Chicago Tribune. At the Chicago Art Institute, he met and studied under prominent art educator Harvey Dunn. In 1915 Dean Cornwell followed Dunn to New York and joined him in his studio-classroom. After studying with Dunn Cornwell quickly became a success, although he eventually developed his own bold, light-drenched style.

Mathieu BASSEZ ✿

Mathieu Bassez is Internationally renowned contemporary figurative artist painMathieu Bassez works on finely woven, handmade linen sourced from a centuries-old Flemish company. Painted in one fine layer of oil, the end result has the smoothness of an Old Master. Each painting has remarkable detail, inviting the onlooker to reach out, touch the canvas and step into it.
Beyond the Old Masters techniques, his life size contemporary paintings evoke a strong visual impact.
